Seasonal bird census begins in Bhitarkanika National Park

Kendrapara: The Forest department on Monday began the seasonal bird census at Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district.

The census, which is carried out during the monsoon season every year, will continue for a week, said an official.

Two teams of seven members each comprising forest officials, wildlife enthusiasts, ornithologists are being engaged in the enumeration exercise.

The teams will carry out the head count of the migratory birds in the wetland areas of the park, including Raipatia, Mathadia, Guptighata, Hansinaghata and Batighara, the official said.
