Tokyo Paralympics: Pramod Bhagat wins gold in badminton


Bhubaneswar: Pramod Bhagat from Odisha has won the Men’s Singles SL3 event badminton gold medal match against Great Britain’s Daniell Bethell at the Tokyo Paralympics on Saturday.

This is India’s first medal in badminton at the Paralympics Games.

Manoj Sarkar clinched the Bronze medal in the same category by beating Daisuke Fujihara of Japan.

Bhagat also remains in contention for a bronze medal in mixed doubles SL3-SU5 class. Bhagat and his partner Palak Kohli will contend for bronze against Japanese pair of Daisuke Fujihara and Akiko Sugino on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Pramod Bhagat for striking gold at the Paralympics.

Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a beautiful sand art at the Puri beach to congratulate him for winning the gold medal.
