Bhubaneswar: Experts from the industry have advised management students to take up challenges and turn them into opportunities as they seek advancement in their career.
“You have to turn challenges into opportunities and show leadership skills to become successful. What you need is decisiveness to ensure growth,” said Prabhakar Mohanty, Director (Finance) in Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) and Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC)
He was speaking at the induction ceremony of the Integrated MBA and BBA students at the Institute of Business and Computer Studies (IBCS), faculty of management sciences of SOA here recently.
Mohanty said there was a time when cost was not considered important but today there is emphasis on cost-price relationship.
“Decisiveness in decision making is an important need for those seeking a career in management,” he said.
Shailendra Sharma, Vice-President of ICICI Lumbard, also addressed the students while the program was presided over by Dean, IBCS, Prof. Anup Kumar Samantaray. Prof. P.K.Nanda, SOA’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das, Dean (Students’ Welfare) and Dr. Saraju Prasad also addressed the event.
Sharma, who described IBCS as one of the state’s best institutions, advised the students to keep their confidence intact and understand the fact that language could not be a barrier for their career growth.
“English is important but we must understand that every language has its own importance. You have to put across your views,” he said.
Prof. Nanda said that more than 12,000 students studied in SOA and the Deemed to be University was now visible nationally and internationally as it was making rapid strides.
