BJP-led NDA names Draupadi Murmu as candidate for presidential polls

National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has named former Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu as its candidate for the presidential elections.

Draupadi Murmu is from Odisha and she was a Minister in Naveen Patnaik government during the BJP and BJD alliance in Odisha.

BJP president JP Nadda announced the name of Murmu as NDA candidate.

“For the first time, preference has been given to a woman tribal candidate. We announce Draupadi Murmu as NDA’s candidate for the upcoming Presidential elections,” BJP chief JP Nadda said.

The announcement came shortly after 17 Opposition parties picked Yashwant Sinha, a veteran politician and former union minister, as their candidate for the presidential polls.
