Mo College Abhijan hosts webinar on Sri Lanka’s financial crisis


A webinar on the topic, ‘Sri Lanka’s Crisis: Foreign Policy Amidst Domestic Tumult’, was organized by ‘MoCollege Abhijan’ in collaboration with ‘The Intellect’ on Friday. More than 1000 students, principals, faculty and staff from various colleges participated in the event.

Mo College Abhijan organises such thematic interactive seminars, addressed by eminent panellists, with an objective of keeping students updated on important national and international topics.     

Key speakers at Friday’s webinar were Prof. Chintamani Mahapatra, Retd. VC, JNU and Amarendra Khatua, Former Secretary, MEA, Govt Of India.

Joining the virtual event, Mo College Abhijan Chairperson Akash Dasnayak welcomed the guests. In his address Shri Dasnayak said, ”It is important for students to understand contemporary issues while pursuing studies. Intellectual discussions always enhance one’s personality, and today’s webinar will certainly make the students aware of the international situation.’’

Chairman, The Intellect, Debendra Rout joined the webinar as the Convenor. He said the purpose of the webinar is to connect students from across the state. It will help in increasing their intellectual aspects through such contemporary discussions, he added.

Key speaker at the webinar, Prof. Chintamani Mahapatra said the pandemic was a colossal crisis and technology proved to be a great saviour during the trying times.

In the backdrop of the Sri Lankan economic crisis, Prof Mohapatra cautioned that mismanagement of loans and mindless expenditure may lead countries to similar crisis.

The other key speaker, Shri Amarendra Khatua, said small island countries are dependent on tourism and their GDP is not diversified. In the context of Sri Lanka’s present crisis, he said India’s timely aid and assistance is likely to make Sri Lanka stand on its feet once again.

The participating students from various colleges had a question & answer session with the panellists and the webinar ended on a high note with the vote of thanks proposed by Mo College State Coordinator Prof. Hrushikesh Mohanty.
