Drones to tackle mosquito menace in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will implement drone operations to control rising menace of mosquitoes in the capital city.

Drones will be used to spray chemicals in inaccessible areas where vehicles can’t reach. It will be launched from December 23.

“Like Calcutta Municipal Corporation, we will identify the source of the mosquito breeding and use drones over those to spray chemicals,” said BMC Mayor Sulochana Das.

BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said that they have planned to increase the number of vehicles engaged in carrying out fogging activity in the city.

“Additional teams will be engaged for cutting bushes and intensify cleaning activities,” he said.

The civic body will seek advice from scientific experts to understand the reasons behind the burgeoning mosquito population and what measures can be taken to effectively tackle the problem.
