BDO in Balangir arrested by Odisha Vigilance


Balangir: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested Khariar BDO Narayan Sahoo on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known source of income.

Sahoo was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir, and has been remanded to judicial custody till January 31.

He was arrested following simultaneous raids at five places associated with him on Tuesday.

After a thorough search, inventory, and further inquiry, the income, expenditure, and assets of Sahoo were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which are 106% higher than his known sources of income, Odisha Vigilance Directorate said in a release today.

During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets were unearthed in the name of Sahoo and his family members:

(1). One double-storeyed building at the backside of Vatika Hotel in Balangir town worth approx Rs.88 Lakhs

(2). Land/plots in and around Balangir

(3). Cash Rs 3.99 lakh

(4). Bank & Insurance deposits worth over Rs.13.49 Lakhs

(5). Gold jewelry of 764 grams and silver ornaments of 720 grams worth over Rs.36 lakh

(6). One four-wheeler (Hyundai Creta) worth Rs.14.38 Lakhs and 2 two-wheelers

(7). Household articles worth over Rs.7 Lakh

Further investigation into the case is underway.
