Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Minister and senior BJD leader Naba Das was shot on his chest in Brajarajnagar of Jharsuguda district on Sunday.
He has been admitted to the district headquarter hospital.
Going by preliminary reports, an assistant sub inspector allegedly shot at Naba Kishore Das near Gandhi Chak when he was stepping out of his vehicle. The police man who used an issue revolver has been detained.
Assistant sub-inspector of police Gopal Das fired from his service revolver at Das from a point blank range, said Brajarajnagar SDPO Gupteswar Bhoi.
The exact reason as to why the ASI fired at the Minister is not clear. The concerned official has been taken into custody and is being interrogated, said Bhoi.
Meanwhile, Minister Naba Das is being airlifted to Bhubaneswar from Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital.
