Teacher couple attempts suicide, wife dies

Berhampur: In an unfortunate incident, a woman died and her husband is battling for life after the couple allegedly attempted suicide at their residence in Patpur locality of Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district on1 Monday.

As per reports, the incident took place in Dengadi under Patpur police limits.

While the deceased has been identified as Shailendri Mohanty, her husband is Jayasen Mohanty who is currently undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

Sources said both Shailendri and Jaysen worked as teachers. Shailendri was a teacher at Kachkhandi Primary School in Berhampur and Jayasen works in a school outside Ganjam district.

Though the exact reason behind the extreme step of the couple is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that they might have attempted suicide after losing money on online betting games.

A probe has been launched into the matter and everything will be clear soon, said the police.
