Violence during Hanuman Jayanti, internet services suspended


Sambalpur: As many as 30 persons were on Thursday arrested and 43 detained for questioning in connection with the violence during a bike rally which was taken out prior to the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations in Odisha’s Sambalpur city last evening.

On the other hand, internet services have been suspended for 48 hours till 10 am on April 15 to prevent the spread of inflammatory messages.

As per reports, at least 10 cops were injured during a bike rally in the Western Odisha city. The rally was organised for Hanuman Jayanti, which falls on Friday. The incident occurred in Dhanupalli Street, when some people pelted stones, set shops on fire, damaged cars and bikes during the bike rally.

Trying to control the situation, at least 10 police personnel, including an ASP-ranked officer and the IIC of Dhanupali police station were injured by unidentified miscreants.

The injured were shifted to a city hospital and 10 platoons of forces were deployed to control the situation. Section 144 was clamped in as many as 7 police stations of the city, sources revealed.

Meanwhile,Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan slammed Odisha govt.

He said, “Police & public were injured in yesterday’s incident. It shows the incompetency of the state govt. It proved that law & order situation is not good in the State.”
