National-level training program on statistical machine learning begins at SOA

Bhubaneswar: A five –day National Level Short-Term Training Program on Statistical Machine Learning commenced at the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), faculty of engineering of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) here on Monday.

The comprehensive program, meticulously conceptualized and planned by the Centre of Data Science and Centre of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, has attracted enthusiastic participants from diverse backgrounds and institutions.

Dr. Buddhananda Banerjee from the Department of Mathematics, Centre for Excellence in Artificial Intelligence at IIT, Kharagpur and Dr. Deepak Ranjan Nayak from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, MNIT, Jaipur are the resource persons at the program, Prof. Debahuti Mishra, Program Chair of NLSTTP-2023, said.

“We are delighted to witness an overwhelming response to this program with around 125 participants from various domains and institutions joining it. This reflects the significance and relevance of statistical machine learning in transformation of industries globally,” she said.

Addressing the inaugural function, Dr. Banerjee enlightened the participants and research community on the strength and versatility of statistical machine learning in different domains of research and its future prospects.

Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of SOA, who was the chief guest on the occasion, emphasized on the importance of machine learning in multi-disciplinary research and encouraged the participants to get the best out of these training sessions.

Prof. P.K.Sahoo, Dean of ITER, appreciated the efforts of the department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Center of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in organizing the short term training program.

Prof. Mishra said the training program aimed to achieve several objectives including making clear the fundamentals of statistical machine learning and building a strong theoretical foundation. Besides, practical exercises and training sessions would provide valuable hands-on experience in implementing machine learning algorithms, she said.

Dr. Abhijit Sutradhar, Convenor of the program, who proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Manoranjan Parhi, Organising Chair, Dr. Alakananda Tripathy, Organising Co-Chair and Dr. Swadhin Kumar Barisal and others in organizing the event.
