Ten Hackathon teams of ITER qualify for SIH-2023

Bhubaneswar: Ten out of 71 teams comprising students of the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), faculty of engineering and technology of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) here, who participated in HackerWar 4.0– an institute level pre-qualification round hackathon – have qualified to partake in the prestigious Smart India Hackathon (SIH)-2023.

HackerWar 4.0, the 4th edition of the annual Hackathon series of ITER, was this year organized on virtual mode over a period of 24 hours spanning September 16 and 17 by ITER’s department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in collaboration with the institute’s CODEX Club, Centre for Innovation and Incubation (SOA CII) and Atal Innovation Centre-SOA Foundation (AIC SOA), according to Prof. Debahuti Mishra, Head of Department of CSE.

The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is an annual flagship initiative of the Government of India which aimed at nurturing innovation and promoting problem solving ability among students of various institutes and universities across the country.

Apart from selecting the teams for SIH 2023, the additional objective of this hackathon  event was to inspire creativity, problem solving ability and foster collaborative teamwork among the future engineers of our institute, Prof. Mishra said.

The event this time witnessed an overwhelming response from the students of ITER and approximately 450 students (71 teams) from across all engineering disciplines participated.

A jury, comprising Mr. Subrat Kumar Prusty, Director (Technology and Rural Development) in the Department of Telecommunication, Mr. Srikanta Mohapatra, Senior Consultant at TCS and Mr. Biswaranjan Jena, Senior Consultant at TCS, who assessed the top ten projects chose the winners on Wednesday.

Team HackTivist, comprising Subrat Kumar Sahu, Jiteen Mohanty, Santanu Kumar Mishra, Sunil Kumar Pradhan, K. Nameesha and Swetaparna Mishra, was adjudged the top team while the teams ByteMe and HackSquad were placed second and third in the competition. While the winners won a cash prize of Rs, 10,000, the second and third placed teams received Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively. All top ten teams will take part in the Smart India Hackathon 2023, Prof. Mishra said. Prof. Sarada Prasanna Pati, Professor and Assistant Head, Department of CSE, Dr. Susmita Panda, Associate Professor, Dr. Nikunja Behari Kar, Associate Professor and Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sonbhadra, SPOC, SIH-2023, were present.
