Assault on lady journalist: Odia film producer Sanjay Nayak arrested

Bhubaneswar: Odia film producer Sanjay Nayak, aka Tutu Nayak was arrested by the police on Saturday for allegedly assaulting a woman journalist in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

The Kharavela Nagar police took the action based on the complaint filed against Nayak by lady journalist Debasmita Rout. He has been charged with IPC 341, 323, 294 and 354.

The film producer is accused of assaulting and slapping journalist Debasmita Rout on Friday when she was reporting near a cinema hall in the capital city.

Rout on Friday alleged Sanjay slapped and misbehaved with her while she was covering the release of a new film ‘Pratha’ at city-based Sriya-Swati Talkies.

Earlier in the day, members of Odisha Women in Media (OWM) called on Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh and submitted a memorandum demanding a fair probe in this connection.

On the other hand, the State Commission for Women has sought a report from the Commissionerate Police regarding the alleged misbehavior by the Odia film producer.

Taking suo moto cognizance of the incident, the Commission has asked the police to submit an inquiry report within 15 days.
