SUM Hospital holds workshops ahead of National Hematology Conference


Bhubaneswar: Four parallel workshops on different subjects ahead of the four-day 64 th annual conference of Indian Society of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, being held in the capital city, were organised at the Institute of
Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital on Thursday.

The pre-conference sessions focused on topics like ‘Automation in CBC and Quality Control’, ‘Myeloma Work-up from Diagnosis to Prognosis’, ‘Platelet Function Assay—Techniques and Interpretations’ and ‘Next Generation
Sequencing in Hematopathology’.
The event was graced by Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan who highlighted the importance of academic interactions in medical science and collaborative action among universities.
Prof. (Dr.) Pusparaj Samantasinhar, Medical Superintendent of IMS and SUM Hospital, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Jena, Additional Dean of the institute and Dr. Pritish Patra, Associate Professor, Clinical Hematology, also addressed the inaugural session.
Prof. (Dr.) Samantasinhar and Prof. (Dr.) Jena spoke on the role on hematology, bone marrow transplantation and the pioneering role being played in this by the IMS and SUM Hospital.
Experts in the field from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, BLK Max Superspeciality Hospital, New Delhi, Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC), Vellore, and several
other institutions addressed the different sessions.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar Bhola, Dr. Ripunjaya Mohanty, Dr. Sarita Pradhan, Dr. Samanyoya Gochhait, Dr. Raka Hota, Dr. Gayatri Behera and Dr. Shivangi
Harandkhedkar from IMS and SUM Hospital coordinated the sessions which were
attended by around 100 delegates from across the country.
