Former IAS officer VK Pandian joins BJD

Bhubaneswar: In a significant political development, VK Pandian, a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and Chairman of 5T (Transformational Initiatives) and Nabin Odisha, officially joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday.
Pandian joined BJD in the presence of party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik following a crucial meeting of the party’s senior leaders at Naveen Niwas here.

Pandian, a 2000-batch IAS officer, had previously served as the Private Secretary to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. His association with the 5T initiative, which focuses on Transparency, Technology, Teamwork, Time, and Transformation, has been instrumental in driving key reforms in the state. Notably, Pandian opted for voluntary retirement from government service on October 23, 2023.

The day after his retirement, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wasted no time in appointing VK Pandian as the Chairman of 5T and Nabin Odisha, reflecting the trust and confidence reposed in him by the state leadership.

Pandian’s decision to join the BJD holds particular significance as it comes amid the party’s efforts to revitalize its organizational strength across various constituencies. The move is strategic, especially considering the impending 2024 general elections, where political dynamics and alliances are expected to play a crucial role.

The BJD’s decision to bring VK Pandian into its fold aligns with its larger strategy to strengthen the party and broaden its appeal ahead of the upcoming elections.

Pandian’s administrative experience and familiarity with key state initiatives make him a valuable asset for the party as it seeks to consolidate its position and present a formidable front in the electoral arena, said a BJD leader.
