Bhubaneswar: ‘Nebula Nomads’, one of the ten teams which participated in the first ever annual sports meet conducted by the SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM), emerged champions as the competition closed on Christmas day.
The closing ceremony of ‘Sumumnoya-2023’, the five-day event, was graced by Mr. Tusharkanti Behera, Odisha’s minister of state for Home, Electronics and IT, Sports and Youth Services, who underlined the importance of sport describing it as an integral part of human life.
Different institutions and organisations should also conduct such sporting events as it was not only the key to health and fitness but also helped inculcate integrity, unity and discipline among the people, he said.
Mr. Behera said the Odisha government was trying to provide a push to different sports and was promoting Kho Kho in a big way.
Mr. Behera was welcomed by Dr. Swetapadma Dash, Chief Executive Officer of SUMUM, who said unity, sportsmanship and enthusiasm were the cornerstones of any thriving community. She also thanked the SUMUM family for making the sports meet a success.
Doctors, nurses and other employees of the hospital took part in a cluster of events including cricket, volleyball, badminton, 100 meters sprint, carom, musical chair, Three Legged Race and Lemon and Spoon Race in which ‘Nebula Nomads’ came on top.
The other teams which participated in the meet included Arora Avengers, Phoenix Phantoms, Fusion Force, Celestial Crushers, Zenith Zilts, Galaxy Gladiators, Quantum Quashers, Swift Strikers and Rogue Riders.
Mr. Behera distributed the prizes to the winners and also cut a cake on the occasion of Christmas in the presence of Dr. Dash, other dignitaries and employees of SUMUM.
