OCS recruitment: Odisha govt enhances upper age limit to 38 years

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet today approved an amendment to the Orissa Civil Service (Fixation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1989.

In order to provide ample opportunity to participate in the recruitment examinations for the calendar year 2024, the cabinet has enhanced the upper age limit from 32 years to 38 years.

The upper age limit for entry into government service is governed under the Odisha Civil Service (Fixation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1989. As per the provisions contained under rule 2 of the said rules, the upper age limit for entry into Government Service is 32 (Thirty two) years relaxable in case of ST/SC/SEBC/Women and PwDs as prescribed by the Government from time to time.

Considering delay in recruitment process due to unavoidable reasons, Government had earlier decided to enhance the upper age limit from 32 (thirty two) years to 38 (thirty eight) years for the advertisements made during calendar years 2021, 2022 and 2023 for entry into government service.

In the meanwhile, State Government has framed new Recruitment Rules for different cadres. Further, a number of posts have been created at the base level by way of restructuring of different cadres. Further, seven Combined Recruitment Examination Rules have been notified wherein new syllabus and pattern of examinations have been incorporated. In the OCS recruitment examinations, number of attempts have also been increased.

Hence, in order to provide ample opportunity to participate in the recruitment examinations for the calendar year 2024, it is proposed to extend the similar benefit of enhancement of the upper age limit from 32 to 38 years.
