Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Tuesday announced candidates list for 112 Assembly seats in Odisha. The saffron party released its first phase of candidates for 112 Assembly seats in Odisha ahead of the 2024 elections.
Leading the charge is Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal, who will contest from the Chandabali Assembly Constituency. Accompanying him are seasoned BJP leaders like Suresh Pujari, who will vie for victory from the Brajarajnagar Assembly seat, and Tankadhar Tripathy, stepping into the arena in Jharsuguda.
In a bid to strengthen its presence across Odisha, the BJP has strategically nominated candidates for various constituencies. Kusum Tete will seek election from Sundargarh, Jayanarayan Mishra from Sambalpur, and Biswaranjan Badajena from Jatani.
The entry of actor-turned-politician Akash Dasnayak, who recently switched allegiance from the BJD to the BJP, adds an interesting dynamic. Dasnayak has been granted the ticket to contest from the Korei Assembly seat. Meanwhile, former BJD MP Sidhant Mohapatra has been entrusted with the task of securing victory in Digapahandi.
New entrant Priyadarshi Mishra, who joined the BJP, will represent the party in the Bhubaneswar North constituency. Other notable candidates include Jagannath Pradhan for Bhubaneswar Central, Arabinda Dhali for Jayadev, Babu Singh for Bhubaneswar Ekamra, and Prithiviraj Harichandan for Chilika.
In a move likely to attract attention, Sisir Mishra will challenge Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the Hinjili Assembly Constituency. Additionally, former BJD MP Pratyusha Rajeswari Singh will contest from Nayagarh, while Dushmanta Swain will vie for victory in Khandapada.
The BJP’s selection also includes Upasana Mohapatra, daughter of late Congress leader Lulu Mohapatra, who will represent the party in Bramhagiri. Other candidates include Ashrit Kumar Pattnayak for Pipili, Jayanta Kumar Sarangi for Puri, Pravati Parida for Nimapara, and Tejeswar Parida for Patkura.
The party has also shown support for lineage by nominating Suryabanshi Suraj, son of late BJP leader Bishnu Sethi, for the Dhamnagar Assembly seat. Additionally, Padmalochan Panda will contest from Simulia, Rajendra Das from Soro, Gobinda Chandra Das from Remuna, Manas Kumar Dutta from Balasore, Braja Pradhan from Jaleswar, and Irasis Acharya from Bhatli.
With this diverse array of candidates, the BJP aims to make significant inroads in Odisha’s political landscape in the upcoming elections.
