Students of vertical transportation at World Skill Center secure 100% placement


Bhubaneswar: Students from the World Skill Center (WSC) in Bhubaneswar have consistently demonstrated exceptional placement success, securing roles with esteemed national and international organizations through campus recruitment drives.

Notably, the inaugural batch of the Vertical Transportation program achieved a stellar 100% placement rate, with all graduates in Facility Technology Vertical Transportation (Lift & Escalator Technology) being successfully placed at renowned companies, including Johnson Lifts Pvt Ltd and Schindler.

81 Vertical Transportation students including 15 girls & 66 boys secured placements with multinational companies. The achievers have thanked the state government and WSC for their support.

Modern infrastructure relies heavily on lifts, escalators and travelators, driving the need for skilled technicians to install, maintain, and repair these essential systems.

Keeping this in mind, World Skill Center introduced a special 1-year ‘Vertical Transportation’ course in 2023-24, drawing young talent from Odisha’s towns and villages to acquire specialized skills.

World Skill Center’s state-of-the-art labs offer Vertical Transportation training. Eligible candidates who have completed 2 year ITI or 3 year Polytechnic courses from government and private institutions in the state are eligible to apply for the same.

Rajesh Kumar Sethi, a student from Keonjhar, said, “I joined the World Skill Center’s Vertical Transportation course to become a skilled lift technician. Through this program, I gained comprehensive knowledge of lifts, escalators, and travelators. I’m thrilled to have secured a job at Johnson Lifts, an international company. My family and I are overjoyed with this achievement.”

Padmabati Hansdah, another trainee, said: “I never imagined becoming an elevator technician, but training in Vertical Transportation at World Skill Center has made my dream come true. With access to international-standard equipment, I’ve gained expertise in the field and learned the nuances of working in a corporate environment.”

The World Skill Center, operating under the Odisha Skill Development Authority and the Skill Development and Technical Education Department, Government of Odisha, offers 7 specialized courses under its ‘School of Engineering’ and ‘School of Services’ departments. Encompassing a finishing school model, WSC provides comprehensive training to equip candidates with industry ready skills.

After undergoing training here, the students are subject to various placement drives helping them secure jobs with major industries in India and abroad. Recently, major companies like Johnson Lifts and Schindler have been placed in the World Skill Center. The students of Vertical Transportation have come out with flying colours under the same.

Last date for applications to advanced courses under ‘School of Engineering’ is August 30. Similarly, the last date of application for ‘School of Services’ is September 10.
