CM-KISAN to replace KALIA Yojana in Odisha: New farmers to be included

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government is set to roll out the CM-KISAN scheme, replacing the previous KALIA (Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation) initiative.

Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo on Wednesday, informed that the state would soon initiate the process of including new farmers under the CM-KISAN scheme.

Introduction of CM-KISAN Scheme

The CM-KISAN scheme, introduced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during his first budget speech, aims to provide direct financial support to small and marginal farmers, as well as landless agricultural households in Odisha. The government has allocated Rs 1,935 crore for the scheme in the financial year 2024-25, reflecting its commitment to empowering the farming community.

Key Benefits of the CM-KISAN Scheme

Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo, who also serves as the Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, highlighted the various benefits under the new scheme. The CM-KISAN scheme is designed to cover a wider range of farmers, providing substantial financial assistance to enhance their livelihood:

  1. Assistance to Small and Marginal Farmers:
    • Small and marginal farmers will receive Rs 4,000 annually in two installments, timed to coincide with the agricultural festivals of Akshya Tritiya and Nuakhai.
  2. Support for Landless Agricultural Households:
    • Landless agricultural households will be eligible for Rs 12,500 per year, distributed in three installments: Rs 5,000 each in the first two installments and Rs 2,500 in the final one. Approximately 18 lakh landless individuals are expected to benefit from this provision.

Continuation of Benefits for Existing KALIA Yojana Recipients

While the CM-KISAN scheme is set to replace the KALIA Yojana, the state government has assured that the 40 lakh small and marginal farmers who were beneficiaries under the KALIA scheme will continue to receive financial support. An estimated Rs 1,600 crore will be spent annually to sustain these payments, ensuring that no farmer is left behind during the transition.

Application Process for the CM-KISAN Scheme

To access the benefits of the new scheme, farmers will be required to apply through the CM-KISAN portal. The state government is expected to initiate this process shortly, allowing eligible farmers to register and receive timely assistance.
