Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to undergo a significant leadership change by January 2025.
Balasore MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi, who has been appointed as the returning officer for the party’s organizational elections in the state, revealed that a new president will take the helm of the party soon.
Sarangi announced, “The BJP organisation in Odisha will be revamped by the end of January 2025. The party will get a new president in the state.”
The process of reorganizing the party structure is already underway, beginning with the appointment of new presidents for the block (Mandal) units of the BJP in Odisha. Afterward, new leaders will be appointed to head the district units.
The Balasore MP added, “The party will appoint a new president for the Odisha BJP soon after selecting new chiefs for its district units. The entire process will be completed by the end of January next year.”
The new president is expected to form a fresh team of office-bearers, with a strong emphasis on bringing in new faces. This move is part of the party’s strategy to invigorate its leadership and further strengthen its base in the state ahead of the upcoming political challenges, particularly the preparation for the next three-tier panchayat elections in Odisha.
Manmohan Samal was appointed as state BJP president in March 2023. Despite the party’s victory in the Odisha Assembly elections earlier this year, where BJP managed to defeat the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Samal lost his own seat in the Chandabali constituency in Bhadrak district.
Notably, Samal had previously served as the president of the BJP in Odisha from 1999 to 2004.
