Odisha man ends life following wife harassment

Odisha: Man ends life, accuses wife of harassment

Bhubaneswar: A tragic incident unfolded in Odisha’s Khordha district as Ramachandra Badajena, a resident of Kumbharbasta village, reportedly died by suicide on Saturday, jumping in front of a train near the Nijigarh-Tapang railway track. His death followed the recording of a video message in which he explicitly blamed his wife, Rupali, for prolonged mental harassment.

The deceased, who had been married to Rupali for two years and shared a young daughter with her, reportedly took this extreme step after enduring sustained emotional distress. Family members alleged that the relentless harassment pushed him to the brink.

Upon receiving news of the incident, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police arrived at the scene, recovering Ramachandra’s body. Subsequently, a case was registered based on a complaint filed by his parents, who accused Rupali and her family of abetment to suicide.

Rupali has been arrested by the police and booked under Sections 108, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In her statement to the police, Ramachandra’s mother alleged that Rupali frequently absented herself from their home and mistreated her son for not visiting her parental residence as often as she desired.

The mother further claimed that her family bore the entire financial burden of the wedding and provided ₹20 lakh to Rupali’s family.

“My son suffered constantly after marriage,” she stated. “This tragic end is a result of the cruelty he faced. We demand justice.”

Police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ramachandra’s death.
