Bhubaneswar: Odisha is preparing for a week of rain starting April 8, as a low-pressure system over the south Bay of Bengal intensifies and moves northwest, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD forecasts that the low-pressure system will bring light to moderate rainfall to several districts in Odisha, offering much-needed relief from the scorching heat. Today, districts such as Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar are expected to experience light showers.
On April 9, weather conditions will affect a wider area, including Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar. In addition to rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely to accompany the showers.
The Regional Meteorological Department has issued a warning for thunderstorms and gusty winds, with the most intense weather expected around April 10 and 11.
As a result of the low-pressure system, daytime temperatures are expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, bringing some relief from the ongoing heat. The rain is anticipated to continue through April 12 and 13, with varying rainfall intensity across different parts of the state.
