36 Arrested As Six Injured In Group Clash In Balasore


BALASORE: At least six persons including a woman were injured after two groups of same community violently clashed each other over their beliefs in a village, on the outskirt of  Balasore town.

One of the injured has been admitted to SCB medical college and hospital, and rest were undergoing treatment in the district headquarter hospital, said police on Friday.

The police have arrested 36 persons from either group so far, and it has clamped 144 of CrPC.

Further, adequate police force has been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents, said Sub-divisional police officer Amresh Panda.

The incident took place between two warring groups of the minority community of Jankharai village in the morning under Sadar police station.

Both the groups pelted stones and other materials each other and torched three mud-thatched houses, said police.

The fire tenders controlled the spread of the blaze.

Panda said while they raided the village, they found several lethal weapons and objectionable materials including lathis, swords and acid bottles.

“A case would be registered under sections including arson and arms act. So far, 36 persons belonging to either group were arrested. Adequate police force has been deployed in the village,” said Panda.
