Odisha student dies by suicide after alleged teacher harassment

Kendrapara: A Plus Two student in Odisha’s Kendrapara died by suicide after allegedly being sexually harassed by a teacher at Pattamundai College during an examination.
The student’s mother alleged the teacher touched her inappropriately on February 19th and threatened her. After reporting the incident to the college, who delayed action, the student reportedly died by suicide on February 24th.
Police have intensified their investigation, reviewing CCTV footage, following a formal complaint from the mother.
The student’s mother alleged that the teacher called her daughter outside the examination hall under the guise of checking for malpractice and then assaulted her.
The student, visibly distressed, was threatened with expulsion and told to remain silent. After informing her parents, they approached the college, who reportedly delayed action until after the exams.
Unable to bear the trauma, the student took her own life on February 24th. Initially, police registered an unnatural death case, but following the mother’s formal complaint, they have intensified their investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage.
IIC Dheeraj Lenka confirmed the footage is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
