Puri, Odisha: The entire state of Odisha is reeling from the horrific incident in Balanga, Puri, where a 15-year-old Plus II student was brutally set ablaze by unidentified miscreants. She is now battling for her life in critical condition at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar, having sustained 70-75% Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) burns.

This harrowing crime against women has sparked outrage and a fervent demand for justice. The teenage victim is undergoing intensive care at the hospital’s specialized Burn Centre.

According to AIIMS sources, the girl was rushed to the emergency department on Saturday in a severely critical state. Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, confirmed her dire condition, stating, “Her condition is critical. We are focused on stabilizing her blood pressure and maintaining respiratory support. She is currently on oxygen.” Doctors are closely monitoring her, and the next 48 to 72 hours are crucial in assessing the outcome of her medical treatment.

The victim has suffered devastating second and third-degree burns and is currently undergoing acute skin treatment. While she is remarkably able to speak, she is deeply traumatized. The severity of her injuries means that transferring her to another facility via airlift is not an option at this time, highlighting the extensive and complex burn injury treatment she requires.
