Chatrapur: As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of Gopalpur Port, Adani Foundation, in collaboration with Canara Bank, Chatrapur Branch, organised a Financial Literacy awareness programme for members of Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Producer Groups at Sriramchandrapur Gram Panchayat of Chatrapur block in Ganjam district.
Sriramchandrapur Gram Panchayat has around 105 Women Self-Help Groups with more than 1,200 women members, making it one of the prominent SHG clusters in the region.
Mr. Jayant Mohanty, Regional Head (East), Adani Foundation, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Addressing the participants, he said that empowering women and strengthening their financial independence remain key priorities of the Adani Foundation in the villages surrounding Gopalpur Port.
He highlighted that financial literacy plays a vital role in enabling women to make informed decisions on savings, investments, credit management and financial planning, thereby helping them build a secure and sustainable future. He also emphasised the importance of nurturing more women entrepreneurs in the region.
Representing Canara Bank, Mr. Sheikh Mehboob, Regional Head, Berhampur Regional Office, Ms. Dibyasmita Maharana, Branch Manager, Chatrapur Branch, Mr. Rabi Narayan Mohini, FI section head, along with other bank officials, conducted informative sessions on various government financial schemes, banking services, loan facilities, savings practices, responsible credit management and timely loan repayment.
The officials also created awareness on safe digital banking practices and precautionary measures to prevent online and digital financial fraud.
Sharing her experience, Ms. A. Kabita, a member of a Self-Help Group from Sriramchandrapur Gram Panchayat, said that earlier women had to visit the bank several times to understand loan procedures and documentation.
“Today, the bank has come to our doorstep and explained various government schemes, loan facilities and financial management in a simple and practical manner. We sincerely thank Adani Foundation and Canara Bank for organising such a useful programme,” she said.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Debadutta Mishra, Head, CSR, Gopalpur Port.
