Love birds marry, end lives hoping to unite in heavenly abode

BHUBANESWAR: Hoping to unite in their heavenly abode being deprived of the opportunity in this mundane world, two teenage lovebirds committed suicide together after getting married clandestinely overnight in Odisha’s Angul district.

It was love at first sight, relation growing deeper day by day, the urge for getting united by tying the nuptial knot but all hell broke loose when social stigma stands bar and at last the drastic step. However, they tied the knot in midnight before committing taking the extreme step.

The lovebird couple, who belong to Redhakhole area in Sambalpur district, committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train near Angul Railway Station on Sunday night, said police on Monday.

The two were identified as Amitabh Barik and Nilima Padhi, both Plus Two students below 18 years of age, said police.

Police said the incident occurred at Ranigoda rail line near the railway station.

Some villagers, who had gone to attend the call of nature by the rail line, first marked body pieces lying on the tracks. They soon informed police and railway officials.

On reaching the spot, police found that both the boy and the girl had college identity cards of a Plus Two college.

Police said both the girl and girl might have married before committing suicide since it was found that the girl had worn vermilion on her forehead and bangles in her hand.

Meanwhile, the parents have been informed about the incident.

According to some eyewitnesses, both the love birds were loitering at the station on Sunday night.
