BHUBANESWAR: Alleging that there was the collapse of law and order in Odisha under the BJD rule, the Odisha BJP on Friday decided to hold protests across the state against rising crimes against women in the state.
The party would launch a statewide demonstration on Saturday against the Odisha government. The saffron party took the decision following the brutal rape of a nine-year-old minor girl in Jatni.
“Women are unsafe in the state. The Jatani rape case is a burning example after Bebina, Itishree, in the state. The law and order have completely collapsed in the state due to bad administration of the government,” said Odisha BJP chief Basant Panda.
Notably, the nine-year-old girl was allegedly brutally raped by Ahiraj Nayak, who has several criminal records. The victim is in a critical condition at Capital Hospital here.
The police have arrested Ahiraj, who also tried to kill her by strangulating after raping her, but she survived with injuries.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has already expressed deep anguish over the incident. He has also ordered strong action against the culprit.
