Porngate in Odisha assembly: Ethics Committee to examine video footage

BHUBANESWAR: Beginning the inquiry process over the porngate issue in the Odisha assembly, the Ethics Committee of the Assembly on Tuesday decided to examine the CCTV footage and video footage aired by electronics media to verify the veracity over the allegations on Congress legislator Naba Kishore Das watching objectionable video clip in the house during the winter session last year.

Chairperson of the Ethics Committee and BJD MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain said the meeting reviewed the report submitted by the assembly speaker to the committee.

“All the committee members have been asked to give their opinion on the report of the speaker,” he added.

Congress MLA Prakash Behera, a committee member, said the committee will have another round of meeting in the next week and will discuss the matter after going through the written opinion of the committee members.

BJD MLA Amar Prasad Satpathy said the committee would review the CCTV footage of the state assembly and the video footage of the local news TV channels.

Notably, Speaker Niranjan Pujari had on December 14 suspended Congress legislator Naba Kishore Das for a week for allegedly watching porn video clip in the house of Odisha assembly.

The speaker announced the suspension of Das after a motion brought by chief government whip Ananta Prasad Das was passed in the House by voice vote during the zero hours.
