BHUBANESWAR: Even though the Odisha government has never tired of claiming that it has taken several initiatives for youths and providing employment opportunities, the fact is that over 10 lakh youths registered with various employment exchanges in the state are awaiting Jobs.
The state government could provide employment to 76910 people by organising job fairs during 2008- 09 and 2015-16.
Skill development and technical education minister Sanjay Das Burma informed the Assembly that Cuttack tops the state with 60,000 registered youths in the district waiting for jobs.
Similarly, 57,567 youths of Berhampur are Jobless followed by Rourkela with 47,732; Baripada 46,359; Balasore 43,392; Puri 40,619; Kendrapara 37,109 and Dhenkanal 33,964.
The minister also informed the House that 58,311 educated persons have also registered themselves with the state employment exchange seeking jobs, while over 40,000 youths have registered themselves with SC and ST employment exchange.
Similarly, 28,853 youths have registered themselves at Bhubaneswar employment exchange while 19,310 have registered themselves with Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT) and with Utkal University, Vani Vihar.
The minister said during 2008-09 and 2015-16 the state government, under Odisha Employment Mission, has organised 109 job fairs through which it was able to provide employment to 76,910 persons.
