Odisha Finalises Action Plan For Police Medernisation For 2016-17


BHUBANESWAR: The State Level Empowered Committee (SLEC) meeting on the modernization of police force held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on Tuesday finalised the action plan for 2016-17.

Considering the proposed action plan, Chief Secretary directed to procure equipment that was robust and compatible with existing database to put them to use.

He also advised the police to take advantage of the equipment that has been supplied to ODRAF units so as to keep them in good condition. The action plan focused on modernization of anti-terrorist and anti-naxalist operation systems.

Director General of Police (DGP) Kunwar Brajesh Singh said that the finalised action plan would be submitted to both the state and central governments for approval.

I.G., Modernization Sushant Kumar Nath said that the action plan for 2016-17 had been estimated at 29 crores.

The action plan has focused on modernization of arms, modern equipment for police operations, traffic management, upgradation of intelligence gathering system, CCTV surveillance, law and order surveillance, upgradation of the communication system, upgradation of facilities for state CID, upgradation of fingerprint bureau, etc.

The fund support will be provided by the central and state government on 60/40 ratios. It may be pertinent here to mention that earlier the scheme was being funded on 75:25 ratios between centre and state.
