BJP Mounts Pressure On Odisha Govt To Take Action Over Attack On Union Ministers

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha wing of BJP on Monday held a demonstration demanding strict action against the persons involved in the attack on Union Ministers in Bargarh recently.

Several senior leaders participated in the demonstration held in front of Raj Bhawan. Besides, party workers from across the state attended the demonstration.

The BJP also submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir in this regard.

“The state government has failed to act against the BJD leaders involved in the attack on Union Ministers. While MLAs and a Minister are involved in the attack, no action was taken against them,” said BJP president Basant Panda.

He also raised the alleged nexus of Ministers and MLAs with Motilal Gouda, who was on Sunday arrested for issuing fake government notification and swindling public money.

Senior BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra asked why the government did not take any action against the police officials including Bargarh SP for failing to provide security to the Union Ministers.

National BJP secretary Suresh Pujari said the state government run by Naveen Patnaik is protecting its leaders.

Notably, some BJD workers allegedly attacked the convoy of Union Ministers Santosh Gangwar and Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti when they were on their way to attend a programme of BJP in Bargarh recently.

However, ruling BJD refuted the allegations.

BJD spokesperson Sameer Das said, “Since Panchayat elections are fast approaching,  the BJP is trying to take mileage over the issue. It is seeking to take the second slot relegating Congress party in the state.”
