BHUBANESWAR: The casting couch case of comedian Papu Pom Pom took a new turn on Monday as the victim’s father filed a petition in the court urging to reject the earlier petition against the Odia actor.
He sought to withdraw the case filed against the Odia actor.
In the affidavit submitted to the Khurdha Districts and Sessions Court, he said that the matter relating to sexual exploitation of his daughter had been resolved amicably, and there is no need to stretch the issue in the court.
It was informed by Friends Foundation, which had lodged FIR against Papu Pom Pom with the Mahila Police Station here.
“The father of the victim filed an affidavit before the court citing that they do not want to continue the case. They have settled the matter amicably. However, the court has rejected the affidavit,” said Babita Kar, secretary of Friends Foundation.
However, it is learnt that the court has rejected the petition of victim’s father and allowed the case to continue.
Notably, Papu along with his associate Pradeep Swain are in judicial custody after police arrested him on charges of sexually exploiting a minor girl by giving false promise to cast her in films.
The court on Monday deferred the bail plea of Papu to July 11 as the police could not submit the case diary.
The Commissionerate Police has registered a case against the actor under Sec 354 (A), 506, 509 of IPC and Sec 8, 12 and 17 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
