OHRC Seeks Report On Tribal Man Walking 10km With Wife’s Body


Bhubaneswar: Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Friday directed the Kalahandi district administration to conduct an inquiry into the shocking incident of a tribal man forced to walk nearly 10 km with his wife’s body after he failed to get an ambulance.

Taking a suo motu cognizance of media reports, the commission has asked the Kalahandi district collector and chief district medical officer to submit the inquiry report within two weeks.

Notably, the tribal man was forced to walk with his wife’s body for 10 km in Kalahandi district as he could not afford an ambulance.  The incident had brought national attention bringing a bad name to Odisha.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday described the incident as ‘extremely distressing’.

“It is extremely distressing. An action would be taken against whoever found guilty,” said the Chief Minister in Bengaluru, where he attended invest Odisha meet to attract investors to Odisha.
