Utkal University To Hold Students Poll This Year

Bhubaneswar: The PG Council of Utkal University on Wednesday decided to hold students’ union poll on the campus this year.

It was decided in a meeting of PG Council, which deliberated on the recommendations of the student council advisory committee.

The election was canceled last year due to students unrest in the campus.

“The meeting decided to hold students union election this year. All necessary arrangements would be made for the peaceful poll,” said Ranjan Bal, chairman of Utkal University PG Council.

He,however, said the council reserves every right to cancel the poll if students unrest takes place on the campus.

He said while CCTVs have been installed at the entrance of the University, security personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order on the campus.

Students’ union election across the colleges and universities in Odisha will be held on October 5, said sources.

The students and probable candidates welcomed the decision of the University authorities.
