Xavier Institute Organizes X-Athon


Bhubaneswar: Xavier Institute of Management of Xavier University, Bhubaneswar organized “X-Athon 16”, its flagship 10K marathon, powered by Uber on Sunday.

A prelude to XIMB’s annual cultural and business festival “Xpressions 2016”, this one of a kind marathon called out people to run for a cause and aimed at inspiring people to lead healthier and more active lives, along with raising awareness and funds for a social cause.

The route for the 10 km marathon was XIMB Campus to Patia Chowk and back. The guest of honor for the event was Lalit Das, the Home department special secretary.

He appreciated the efforts put in by the organizing committee and highlighted the importance of exercise by saying “most things we do for others but running we only do for ourselves”

This year, X-Athon had collaborated with CRY foundation (Child Rights and You), an international NGO dedicated to uplift lives of thousands of children and provide education to them. All the proceeds from the event will be donated to them, thereby enabling many underprivileged children to kick-start their education for a better tomorrow.

Ashok Kumar secured the first position and received a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and Tittu Baby was the runner up winning a cash prize of Rs 10,000. In the female category, Pushparani Jena secured the first position receiving a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Apart from that, the first ten participants to complete the marathon received medals and certificates of appreciation.

This noble venture was also supported by Mindfire solutions, Nalco and Blue Voda.

X-Athon is a great social initiative and witnessed mass participation from old and young alike. More than 500 people, including college students, corporate employees etc. were a part of the run. Participants were delighted that they could do their bit to help the noble cause by just taking a run with their friends and family.
