Bhubaneswar: The workers of Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday took out a rally protesting the arrest of their party MPs Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Tapas Pal by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with Rose Valley chit fund scam.
They accused the Narendra Modi government of indulging in political vendetta against their party, which is opposing the demonetization move of the center.
The party workers staged demonstration followed by a protest meeting at Lower PMG here.
TMC general secretary and MP Subrata Baxi, West Bengal Education Minister Partho Chatterjee, Water Resources Minister Saumen Mahapatra and Ramnagar MLA Akhil Giri participated in the protest rally.
On the other hand, Section 144 of the CrPC (Prohibitory Orders) was clamped before the CBI office here as a preventive measure.
The two MPs have been arrested in the Rose Valley chit fund scam. Both the MPs are in CBI custody. A special CBI court on Monday granted the central investigating agency to take Sudip Bandyopadhyay on four-day remand for further interrogation.
