OUAT students seek action against BJD MLA’s son for death of a girl

Bhubaneswar: Students of Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) on Monday staged a road blockade and demanded action against BJD MLA Debashish Samantray’s son for death of a girl student due to accident on Saturday night.

The student claimed that the MLA’s son was driving the vehicle on the fateful night.

“The vehicle belongs to the owner of Siddarth Construction, which is of Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debashish Samantaray’s brother. The legislator’s son was driving the vehicle on that fateful night,” said an agitating student.

Suchismita Biswal, a Master of Computer Application (MCA) under the Centre for Post-Graduate Studies (CPGS) in the university, died after being hit by a vehicle on Siripur-Fire Station road on Saturday night. Another girl was injured in the accident.

The agitating students called off their strike after getting assurance from police that they would nab the culprit.

Police Commissioner Y.B. Khurania said they have seized the vehicle and are investigating into the matter.
