1.03 lakh cases registered in Odisha in 2016


Bhubaneswar: Even though around 1.03 lakh cognizable cases were registered in 2016, the Odisha government on Tuesday claimed that the law and order situation largely remained peaceful across the state.

According to the White Paper tabled by the Home department in the state Assembly, a total 1,03,602 cognizable cases have been registered in the state last year.

These includes 1,328 murder, 2144 rape, 566 dacoity, 4004 burglary, 9044 theft, 2012 rubbery, 3197 swindling, 1914 rioting, 10,532 road mishaps and 68861 miscellaneous cases.

The report claimed that there is subsequent progress in Maoist situation while Naxal-related cases have been recorded in 11 districts.

It said that 68 Maoist-related incidents were reported in the state out of which 33 incidents were the exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists.

23 civilians and three security personnel lost their lives last year.

In the anti-LWE front, as many as 39 LWE cadres have been neutralized, 35 arrested and 31 surrendered in the state during 2016.
