Pension of freedom fighters increased in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday decided to increase the monthly pensions of freedom fighters in various categories with retrospective effect from April 2017.

According to a release from Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the pension of jailed freedom fighters has been increased to Rs 10,000 per month from the existing Rs 6,000.

Those, who did not go to jail, but took part in the freedom struggle, will get a monthly pension of Rs 9,000 instead of Rs 5,000, said the release.

The state government also increased the Token Pension amount to Rs 8,000 from the existing Rs 4,000.

Notably, the Odisha government had last effected hike in the pension of freedom fighters in 2013.
