Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are likely to receive rainfall from Thursday as a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a ‘depression’, said Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.
The depression is likely to intensify further into a ‘deep depression’ during the next 48 hours.
“Latest observations and satellite imageries indicate that the well-marked low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood concentrated into a Depression,” said an IMD bulletin.
The system is very likely to move northwestwards and reach Andhra Pradesh coast around 8th December evening.
“The system is likely to intensify further into a deep depression during next 48 hours. However, there is a probability of slight weakening of the system when it reaches near Andhra Pradesh coast,” the bulletin added.
“Rainfall at many places very likely over north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha during 7th to 9th December 2017 with isolated heavy falls on 8th and 9th,” it said.
The IMD warning also states, “Squally winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely to prevail along and off Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts from 7th evening to 9th December morning and decrease thereafter.”
