Retirement Gratuity, Death Gratuity for Odisha govt employees

Bhubaneswar: After implementing the 7th Pay Commission recommendations, the Odisha government has implemented the benefit of Retirement Gratuity and Death Gratuity to all of its employees, who have joined service from January 1, 2005 onwards.

These employees are now covered by the contribution pension scheme under the National Pension System (NPS).

The decision of the state government to implement Retirement Gratuity and Death Gratuity would benefit to over 1 lakh government employees in the state.

“It is reiterated that State Government employees joining in the pensionable establishment on or after 01.01.2005 and covered under NPS shall be eligible for benefits of ‘Retirement Gratuity and Death Gratuity’ on the same terms and conditions as are applicable to the employees covered by Orissa Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 1992. This shall take effect from the same date–01.01.2005,” said a Finance Department memorandum.

Finance minister Sashi Bhusan Behera said the Odisha Civil Services (Pension) Amendment Rules, 2005, has been modified to extend these facilities.

According to official sources, the employee will get 26 and half times of his/her last salary in the last month of service.

Usually, the employees get 16 and a half months’ salary on the head of gratuity and 10 months’ salary towards unutilised leave post-retirement. The facilities were not available for those who got the job after 2005.

However, after the government of India made provision for gratuity for its employees, the State followed suit for the better interest of the employees.
