Odisha shivers under cold condition


Bhubaneswar: Cold conditions continued to prevail at several parts of Odisha with 14 places recording temperature below 10 degrees Celsius affecting normal life.

Bhubaneswar met centre director Sarat Chandra Sahu said the cold condition would continue until next 10 days in the state.

Phulabani was the coldest place in the state as it recorded minimum temperature of 3.5 degree Celsius on Wednesday. Darignbadi, known as Kashmir of Odisha, recorded 4 degree Celsius. A thin layer of snow was found in many places in Daringabi, G Udaygiri and Belghar area in Kandhamal district.

Sundargarh recorded 6.5 degree Celsius while Hirakud registered 7.1 degree Celsius.

The mercury dropped by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in coastal Odisha due to cold wind from the north-east direction.
While the temperature in Bhubaneswar was recorded at 11 degree Celsius, Cuttack recorded 10 degree Celsius.

The brutal cold has worried many especially the poor. Most night shelters witnessed more than normal occupancy after the dip in the temperature. People were seen spending the night sitting along firewood on the roadside.
