Odisha govt extends tenure of Chit fund probe panel

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday extended the tenure of Justice MM Das Commission of Inquiry on the unauthorised collection of public deposits for another six months.

The government further extended the tenure of the commission inquiring into the chit fund scam for 6 months with effect from February 5.

Set up in July 2013, Justice Das headed the panel in February 2015 following the death of the then Commission Justice RK Patra.

The Justice MM Das Commission of Inquiry has so far submitted four interim reports to the government.

Notably, thousands of depositors have been duped by the chit fund companies in the state. The chit fund probe panel is mandated to identify the depositors and recommend the government ensuring that they get their deposited money.
