Naba Kumar Nayak appointed as State Election Commissioner

Bhubaneswar: Retired IAS officer Naba Kumar Nayak has been appointed as the State Election Commissioner (SEC), ahead of the urban local body elections due in November in Odisha.

He will replace Rabi Narayan Senapati.

The state government has issued a notification in this regard.

Naba Kumar Nayak was a member and chairman in-charge of Staff Selection Commission.

Earlier, Nayak has served as Odisha’s joint chief electoral officer, collector of Puri and Mayurbhanj districts and deputy relief commissioner.

Senapati had joined as State Election Commissioner in August 2014, and superannuated on turning 65 years.

Notably, the state government has started the process of holding elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

The government asked district collectors to complete ward delimitation and seat reservation process of at least 90 urban local bodies (ULB) by April 30.

These 90 ULBs would go to poll during September-December, 2018, said sources.
