OMFED To Sell 5.5 Lakh Litres Milk Daily

OMFED to set up automated dairy and milk production plant


Bhubaneswar: The Odisha cabinet on Thursday approved setting up five lakh litre per day automated dairy and milk production plant to handle increased procurement of milk in the state.

With the increase in milk processing capacity, Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED) will become self-sufficient to handle 10 lakh litre per day.

The proposed plant will be set up by National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) on a turn-key basis which will be a fully automated, modern State of the Art Dairy Plant, first of its kind in the State of Odisha, said chief secretary A.P. Padhi.

The plant will come up at Barang area on 2.5 acres of land within 2.5 years.

Milk producers, as well as the consumers, would be benefitted, as the producers would get a better price and the consumers will get value for their money.

Modernization in processing, packaging, product designing is needed for benefitting the consumers to provide quality milk and milk products. This would help to make Dairy as an economic and viable activity.
