NCSC team on Kunduli gang rape

Will force Odisha govt to take action on Kunduli gang rape case: NCSC team

Bhubaneswar: National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) on Sunday said it will force the Odisha government to take stringent action against the culprits involved in the Kunduli gang rape case.

A three-member team of NCSC arrived in Odisha on Sunday to probe the Kunduli rape and subsequent suicide in Koraput district.

“The culprits cannot roam freely. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes will ensure that they will get stringent punishment in the case. We will force the state government to take action against the culprits,” said Yogendra Paswan, NCSC member.

The intervention of the NCSC came after Koraput MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria knocked the door of the commission alleging that the minor girl, who was allegedly raped by security personnel in Kunduli on October 10 last year, committed suicide after being denied justice on January 22.

The Commission had asked the Koraput Superintendent of Police to submit facts/information pertaining to the incident within three days February 6.

Meanwhile, a five-member National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) team led by DSP Ravi Singh left Kunduli after conducting an on-the-spot probe.
