Odisha cabinet approves Rs.360.60 crore water projects in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur


Bhubaneswar: The Odisha cabinet on Wednesday approved two pipe water supply projects worth Rs.360.60 crore to be implemented in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur district.

Larsen & Toubro Ltd, Chennai will implement the projects. It is mandated to be completed within a period of 24 months from the date of award of the work.

On successful implementation of these projects, over 4.22 lakh people of 473 villages of the two districts will get safe drinking water.

While Rs 272.56 crore has been provisioned under the SFC Grant, Rs 88.04 crore has been provisioned under the state plan “Basudha” for implementation of this critical rural infrastructure project.

The state government has prioritised providing safe drinking water to the people living in the rural areas especially in the water quality affected areas of the state, said chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.

The drinking water projects will be implemented in Narasinghpur and Badamba blocks of Cuttack district where there have been concerns regarding fluoride presence in water and Balikuda, Naugaon and Erasama blocks of Jagatsinghpur district where saline content is more than the admissible limits.

The cabinet also approved the appointment of Brigadier (Retd) Laxmicharan Patnaik as the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) chairman and Jagannath Mohanty as its member.
