Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday filed an application for Geographical Indication (GI) tag for ‘Odishara Rasagolla’.
The Odisha Small Industries Corporation Ltd (OSIC) of the state government on Friday filed the application with the GI Registry in Chennai.
“GI application for the #OdisharaRasagola filed with the GI Registry, Chennai by OSIC today,” tweeted the MSME department.
The West Bengal government in November managed to get GI tag for “Banglar Rasogolla” which applies only to the sweet produced in West Bengal.
Odisha has been claiming that Rasagola originated in the state.
A research report on the origin of Rasagola in Odisha has been presented to the state government. The report claimed that the sweet was offered at Sri Jagannath Temple for centuries.
